When the culture asks you to look away
“I do not know how to stay honest about what is true without becoming cruel.”
This one is different from the other three. It is not about your interior life. It is about what happens to a mind that decides, repeatedly and with good intentions, not to look at something.
Three readings, in order, out of Romans 1. They were written as a sequence and they only work as one. The first replaces the question everyone is arguing about with the question Paul is actually asking. The second describes the mechanism — how suppression works, and why from the inside it never feels like lying. The third puts a name and a face on it.
It is the least personal path on this site and the most uncomfortable. Read it if you have noticed yourself going quiet in rooms where you used to speak, and you are no longer sure whether that is wisdom or something else.
